Touchpad Ergonomics Study

Business Question

This study was to evaluate the ergonomics of different notebook touchpads, including the required click force, touchpad size, palm rest size, accidental click and click sound. Knowing the user preference would provide input and benchmark for product development.

Approach

We conducted gang survey with 60 participants in Beijing.

4 different stations were prepared. Each station had several notebooks. Participants were required to finish the relevant preset tasks in each station.

Subject ratings and rankings were collected after the tasks.

At the end of the test, there was a short discussion where participants shared the reasons behind their preference.

Outcome

The raw data was processed to reveal the best performance and ergonomics for notebook touchpad.

The user interaction on the notebook was video recorded for further analysis in detail about gestures and so on.
